My day begins early with a Bible devotion and a listen to my latest book on Audible while I get ready. Before heading to the office, I review emails and check for any urgent messages from clients or Bank leadership. This helps me prioritize my tasks for the day and prepare for upcoming meetings.
I then spend time reviewing and answering any emails or messages I have pertaining to our construction and building materials supply company that my husband and I own, Heath Building Materials, Inc. Being a business owner myself allows me to better relate to our customers and their needs.
After my morning chores are complete, I make the 20-minute drive to Murray, but not without stopping by my favorite coffee shop, Shaffer Coffee, for the best latte in town. This is my daily must!!
I arrive at the Independence Bank location in Calloway County, greeting colleagues and settling into my workspace. The first order of business is to review my calendar for the day, respond to any emails awaiting my attention in my inbox, and pull informative reports.
I grab my notepad and pen – because I am a heavy note taker – and I join my commercial sales team in the board room for our monthly production meeting. We discuss new product rollouts, upcoming regulatory changes, and strategies for increasing client adoption of our services. Collaboration is essential; we share insights, troubleshoot challenges, and brainstorm ways to enhance our offerings.
After my morning meeting, my focus shifts to client engagement. As a Treasury Management Officer, I serve as a primary point of contact for businesses and individuals seeking cash management solutions. I schedule meetings with clients to discuss their needs, such as automating payroll, optimizing cash flow or new accounts. During these consultations, I listen carefully to their goals, offer tailored advice, and introduce products like Remote Deposit Capture or ACH origination.
In addition to scheduled meetings, I respond to client inquiries via email and phone. Clients often reach out with questions about account security, fraud prevention tools such as Positive Pay, or technical support for online banking platforms. Problem-solving and providing prompt, accurate information are key parts of my job, helping to build trust and long term relationships.
At lunchtime, I grab my gym bag and head to work out and enjoy more of my Audible book or favorite playlist on Spotify.
After returning to the office, I have a short conference call with CASA by the Lakes, a non-profit organization specializing in advocacy for abused and neglected children. I am currently the Co-Chairman of this organization and have been a board member for three years. I then make a quick visit to the Chamber of Commerce, where I am a Chamber Ambassador, to attend a Ribbon Cutting for a new business opening in our community.
I shift my attention to project work. I have a Remote Deposit Capture installation for a customer who has very little time outside of the workplace and is looking for a way to make daily deposits from the comfort of their office. I complete the installation and train the customer on the process, allowing them time to answer any questions they may have.
When I return to the office, I catch a customer in the lobby who needs a business credit card to assist with inventory purchases. With the ease of our application process, I am able to get her approved and on the way within minutes.
In the final hours of the workday, I follow up with my Commercial/Ag Lender, Jimmy Dan Hicks. We are currently collaborating on a shared opportunity with a local farmer who is expanding his farming operations into other counties and needing the assistance of Treasury Management products in order to alleviate time spent at the Bank/office. I then update client records, document key conversations, and set up reminders for follow-up actions on my calendar for tomorrow.
I leave the office a little early today to attend flag football practice; my husband and I coach the Murray Rockets flag football team. The Murray Rockets are Calloway County’s pride and joy in Special Olympics sports. This is truly the joy of my life outside of my family. As a family, we have proudly been volunteers with the Special Olympics for 10 years.
I return home to be greeted by our sweet golden retriever, Lennon. My day ends with praise of thanks to our Lord for providing me with a wonderful career at Independence Bank, four children, a supportive husband, and a community that I am proud to be a part of.

I start my traditional morning routine with a Bible devotion, preparing for the day, and stopping for another latte from Shaffer Coffee to get the day started.
I believe mornings set the stage for success, so staying organized and efficient is important to make sure my day stays on track. Today, I am excited to assist an existing client who is expanding their business by opening a third location in Owensboro. To support their continued growth, I will be helping them set up a new business account tailored to their unique needs. In addition to the account, I will ensure they have access to essential services such as Remote Deposit Capture, ACH origination, and Merchant Services.
One of the aspects I value most in my role is the ability to provide customers with top-notch products and services, regardless of their physical location. Our robust suite of solutions allows us to serve any customer, anywhere, ensuring convenience and efficiency as their business grows.
After working with my client, I make my way to the gym to continue my Audible book and get a small break from tasks for the day. When I wrap up, it’s time to head back to the office, where my focus shifts to working on my projects and collaborating with others on my team to help support our clients in the best way we can.
