Independence Bank Officially Breaks Ground On New Signature Location in Shelby County

Shelbyville, Kentucky

Independence Bank officially breaks ground on its new signature location in Shelby County, on the hill at the corner of Freedom’s Way and Shelbyville Road, marking another important milestone in the Bank’s long-term commitment to the local community. While construction begins on the new full-service location, the Bank continues serving customers nearby at its temporary office in Shelbyville’s Village Plaza at 65 Mack Walters Road. This market bridges the Bank’s presence between Louisville and Frankfort, expanding its community banking footprint across central Kentucky.

Leading the Shelby County team is Market President Brian Webb, a lifelong resident with more than thirty years of local banking experience. “Having grown up here and worked in this community, I know that banking is about relationships – making local decisions and being present matters,” said Webb. “Our team is rooted here and committed to serving Shelby County every single day.”

Webb has assembled a talented team of experienced bankers who share his dedication to local service and the Bank’s strong community culture, including Tyler Long, Vice President, Commercial Loan Officer; Alisa Fackler, Assistant Vice President, Loan Officer; Mary Courtney, Vice President, Agriculture & Commercial Loan Officer; Matt Burgin, Vice President, Loan Officer; Kelly Perry, Location Manager; Cassie Fairfax, Loan Assistant; Kelly Peach, Customer Service Representative; and Hallie Elmore, Customer Service Representative.

To ensure local voices help guide its growth, Independence Bank has also established a Community Board of Directors made up of respected local leaders: April Ethington, Tom Flowers, John Hunter, Josh Hurst, and Wayne Karem. Their insight and involvement will help the Bank stay aligned with the needs and values of Shelby County as it continues to grow.

The upcoming one-story signature location will be modeled after Independence Bank’s hallmark Independence Hall-inspired design, similarly to those in both Louisville and Frankfort. The new facility represents more than just bricks and mortar – it’s a promise that Independence Bank is here for good, deeply investing in Shelby County’s future. “As a community bank, we are focused on building long-term relationships and empowering local decision-making. Shelby County offers strong growth potential, and our new location represents a significant investment in the area’s economic vitality,” said Phil Riney, Independence Bank President. “Our approach is rooted in understanding the unique needs of the community – and we are committed to being a partner that helps businesses and individuals succeed.”

That commitment to giving back runs throughout the organization. In the past year alone, Independence Bank has contributed one million dollars and countless volunteer hours to communities across its footprint. The Bank’s scholarship program continues to help students achieve their educational goals, creating opportunities that strengthen communities for generations to come. In Shelby County, the team has already gotten involved through initiatives like “Seniors Feeding Seniors,” where students from Shelby County and Martha Layne Collins High Schools collected nonperishable items to support roughly 50 local households annually. The Bank also supports efforts like “Shop Shelby Main Street,” which encourages residents to shop locally and strengthen the area’s small businesses.

Independence Bank is proud to call Shelby County home and looks forward to growing alongside the community. Residents, business owners and local partners are invited to stop by the temporary location at Village Plaza, 65 Mack Walters Road, to meet the team and learn more about how the Bank plans to serve the area for the long term. With local decision-making, strong relationships and a focus on meaningful community impact, Independence Bank is planting deep roots in Shelby County while exemplifying its commitment to everyday excellence.

We look forward to opening our newest signature location in 2026.
