July 10th, 2020 Independence Bank customers are being targeted with a fraudulent texting scam where customers are being asked to verify a recent debit card transaction either through a text or a phone call. The text will prompt a “yes” or “no” reply to verify the transaction followed by a call from the fraudster. The fraudster is asking for PIN number and card number or any combination. Do NOT reply, click or call the number that is contained within the message.
NEVER share personal information pertaining to your account or debit card such as account number, card number, PIN number or social security number. Our Bank will never request you to verify personal and account information via text message.
If you’re enrolled in debit card text alerts, there will only be an “approval” or “denial” text of the transaction. We do not ask our customers to reply with a “yes/no” to verify transactions.
If you have fallen victim to this scam or feel that your card information has been compromised, please turn your debit card into the “off” mode in Digital Banking immediately and contact your nearest location.
