FREE concert ft. John Mellencamp on May 19 at WKU-Houchens Smith Stadium

Independence Bank will be presenting “Sounds of Independence,” a free outdoor concert featuring John Mellencamp and Court Yard Hounds on Saturday, May 19, 2012. The concert will be held at WKU-Houchens Smith Stadium from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Gates will open at 4:30 p.m.

The concert stage will be located on the football field facing Big Red Way. On the day of the concert day; Big Red Way will be closed to traffic. As many as 20,000 people are expected to attend the free concert. This will be a similar celebration to the opening of the two story replica, Liberty Square in Henderson, Kentucky in October of 2011.

It is our hope that Freedom Square will reflect the proud spirit and character of Bowling Green and our surrounding communities”.

Sounds of Independence concert headliner John Mellencamp is set to take the stage at approximately 8:00 p.m. Mellencamp is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Grammy Award winner, Woody Guthrie Award and Billboard Century Award recipient who has released 26 albums with 22 top 40 hits through the course of his music career. John Mellencamp is well known for his repertoire of classic songs like “R.O.C.K. in the USA,” “Paper in Fire,” “Authority Song,” and “Small Town.” He is also known for his commitment to family farmers across the nation, underscored by his continued support of Farm Aid, the organization he, co-founded in 1985.

Individuals like John Mellencamp and organizations such as Farm Aid strive to ensure that family farmers thrive, growing good food for all. On May 19th, at the Sounds of Independence concert, Independence Bank will be presenting a check for $50,000 to Farm Aid in support of its efforts to raise awareness and provide support to farming families in need.

This is a free concert to all Independence Bank customers, but we are asking those who can to please bring a canned good donation to any Independence Bank location to help those needed in your local community. Special event ID cards will be required along with a concert ticket to gain admittance to this free concert. Customers of Independence Bank may have their event ID card made at participating Independence Bank locations. Concert tickets will be available for pick up at any Independence Bank location beginning Monday, April 16th. Upon availability, tickets will be available to the general public starting Saturday, May 12th.
